چکیده

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact endophyte-infected tall fescue (E+) seed, and ergovaline (ERV), on gut satiety hormones investigate changes in post-absorptive metabolism. Holstein steers (n=12; 260 ± 16 kg) were assigned one three treatments (ERV concentration diet dry matter): 0, 1.8, 2.7 ppm with animals being adapted an indoor environment for 4 days followed by a 7-day adaptation 10-day treatment period. On 17, blood collected via jugular catheters at 20-min intervals 8 hours beginning 1 hour pre-feeding. Plasma extracted analyzed insulin, leptin, active ghrelin. Non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), b-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), glucose postabsorptive metabolism using plasma from each 60-min interval. DMI decreased linearly increased ERV (P< 0.0001). A quadratic increase observed insulin having greatest concentrations response leptin where 1.8 had Active ghrelin increasing (P=0.047). treatment-by-time interaction NEFA 0.0001) pre-feeding 1-hour post-feeding did not differ control thereafter whereas, above 0 5 among all 6 post-feeding. exhibited least BHB (P=0.029). Glucose (P=0.046). These results indicate that consumption E+ seed decreases intake which may be possible through alteration also alter

Voluntary intake and ingestive behavior of steers grazing Johnstone or endophyte-infected Kentucky-31 tall fescue.

Effects of grazing low-endophyte (Acremonium coenophialum Morgan-Jones and Gams, less than 1% infection) Johnstone (J) or high-endophyte (60% infection) Kentucky-31 (K) tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) on grazing behavior and voluntary intake were studied. Six Angus steers (average initial BW = 326 kg) grazed 1.21-ha plots of each forage cultivar (three steers per cultivar) in four 28-...

Novel Endophyte-Infected Tall Fescue

Tall fescue (Schedonorus phoenix (Scop.) Holub) is a cool season perennial grass that fills a critical forage produc-tion gap in the Southeast and is the predominant forage crop in much of the U.S. In fact, this species is the most widely used grass in improved U.S. pastures, occupying more than 36 million acres. Its popularity is related to establishment ease, drought tolerance, excellent graz...

Microarray analysis of endophyte-infected and endophyte-free tall fescue.

Many grasses have mutualistic symbioses with fungi of the family Clavicipitaceae. Tall fescue can harbor the obligate endophyte, Neotyphodium coenophialum that is asexually propagated and transmitted via host seeds. Total RNA was isolated from pseudostems of known endophyte-infected (E+) and endophyte-free (E-) plants and tested in triplicate on the Affymetrix Wheat Genome Array GeneChip and Ba...

Postgraze assessment of toxicosis symptoms for steers grazed on toxic endophyte-infected tall fescue pasture.

A 2-yr pen experiment was conducted using 12 different crossbred Angus steers each year to determine if short-term changes in prolactin concentrations, body temperature, and vasoconstriction reflect recovery from fescue toxicosis after steers that previously grazed toxic endophyte (Neotyphodium coenophialum)-infected Kentucky 31 tall fescue [Lolium arundinaceum (Schreb.) Darbysh] are placed on ...

Interaction of Isoflavones and Endophyte-Infected Tall Fescue Seed Extract on Vasoactivity of Bovine Mesenteric Vasculature

It was hypothesized that isoflavones may attenuate ergot alkaloid-induced vasoconstriction and possibly alleviate diminished contractility of vasculature after exposure to ergot alkaloids. The objective of this study was to determine if prior incubation of bovine mesenteric vasculature with the isoflavones formononetin (F), biochanin A (B), or an ergovaline-containing tall fescue seed extract (...
